On the Couch with Naomi Reiter Photography

Image
I am really not very comfortable in front of the camera. I get quite nervous so this was great practice and as you can see ended up being a lot of fun.

We only did one practice prior to this video and this is a straight take, no editing (other than text and transitions). We used natural window lighting plus the lamp in the background for ambience because we wanted the living room affect.

I definitely think this will be an ongoing event. Who would you like to see interviewed next?

Sydney Turns Purple

Image
The best thing about November in Sydney is the colour.

Gorgeous purple flowers against deep blue skies. It is the end of spring. The days are getting warmer and there is a definite lift in mood as summer approaches.

Mostly the colour comes from the Jacaranda Tree's which line the streets of Sydney's North Shore and other suburbs. I have taken these photos around Chatswood and Lane Cove.

Also, flowering at this time are Agapanthus which border many front garden and fence here in our Northern suburbs.

One minor drawback is that it can get messy! Although for all of this beauty, I don't mind a bit of mess. Besides, there is usually a massive southerly at some point which blows it all away. That's Sydney for you!

Here's What I Know - Last Day of Being 45!

Image
With my birthday approaching, as it seems to do more and more rapidly each year, I find myself taking stock. What have I learned?  What advice would I give to my children?

Some might possibly find enlightenment in my experiences. Some may smile gently shaking their head from side to side with a knowing "girl, you haven't learnt anything yet"!!

BEING MYSELF...
Gosh this is a big one. I tried so hard to be acceptable to my family, my friends, my husband that I'd assumed a pseudo identity. After a while, it became tiring!

High School was painful. I found myself hiding in the music room, playing piano for an hour rather than sit with the rough group and pretend I was tough or the clever kids and fain intelligence. Graduation day was such a relief for me.

I entered the workplace with great enthusiasm only to find that it was worse than high school. Climbing the ladder, some people do not care who they crush on the way up. That is when I decided to go into business on my o…

Teen Portrait Shoot - On Location, Preparation Is The Key!

Image
What I liked about this shoot was the planning and preparation on behalf of the client and I (mostly the client). I like being prepared but its not always possible with the craziness that is my life!

We booked a date months in advance to take advantage of all of our busy schedules giving us time to prepare our vision for the final images. This included finding the perfect location and preparing a wardrobe and hairstyle ideas.

When my usual location ideas did not match the clients expectations, I went on a quest to find the ideal place to shoot.

Luckily for me, I mentioned it to a few people and one of them came up with these glorious gardens. Stone pathways and steps, beautiful colour and best of all privacy.

Now all we had to do was relax and take some great shots!

TECH TALK...
It was late afternoon so the sun made a lovely backlight as well as casting glorious colour.

As we were using the sun as backlight, we had to fill the foreground. This is where my trusty assistant comes in. He is t…

Clown Doctors -The Children's Hospital, Westmead

Image
My son was a patient at The Children's Hospital at Westmead. First at 8 months of age when his kidney failed and then at 10 months when they removed it. It was a difficult time for us all.

Visiting again, this time as a volunteer photographer, I had to confront the crockpot of intense anxiety and other emotions that envelop you as a parent. But more revealing was having to face the children. The head hanging to their chest and pain glazed eyes, head tilted with a curious expression. "Why does this hurt mummy?"

On this visit, however, the intensity was quickly dissolved by the pure joy brought to the faces of these young patients by the highly skilled and very funny clown doctors. What a wonderful gift!

Whether finishing a round of chemotherapy or waiting for a kidney transplant, every child was able to find a smile for the clown doctors. Each bedside visit was pure delight.

In addition, I witnessed momentary relief among the visiting family. As Grandad holds his jolly tummy…
